Description

The Show Desktop Alternative utility solves the conflict between Microsoft 'Show Desktop.SCF' file and chromatogram SCF files used in biology. More exactly, if you associate SCF files with DNA Sequence Assembler, the Show Desktop icon in the Task bar will not work any more because its extension is the same as the chromatogram files (note: please understand that this is not a limitation in DNA Sequence Assembler but in Microsoft Windows).

This program replaces the Microsoft Show Desktop icon with a new working one. Compared with Microsoft's Show Desktop it has an extra useful feature: it can show your computer's free memory.

How to use it

Double click the program to run it. It will automatically start next time when Windows will start. You can change that in the configuration menu.
Click on the blue icon to activate it.
Select the menu 'Show free memory' and its icon will turn green and it will display your computer's free memory.

Portability

This software tool is really small so you can easily copy it on a floppy disk or USB flash stick and take it with you or send it to your colleagues via email.

System requirements

Show Desktop Alternative can run on any version of Windows from Windows 98 to Windows 7. It does not install additional libraries, updates, DLL, Java or registry keys into your system.
